What's new in XMF?

Corrections and additions of the new release concern viewing seismograms (module Line Seismogram Viewer, LSV).  Default setting dialog has been changed; now the settings are stored automatically in the project folder. Therefore, the default view settings are always adjusted to the type of seismic records in a project seismograms.

Unfortunately, LSV allows viewing seismograms only from XMF projects and after positional data have been input. To work around this inconvenience, a new program, Seismic Multi-Viewer, has been added to XMF. It is similar to LSV and allows viewing seismograms (and any SEG-Y/PC files) outside XMF projects. It has its own item in the Start/XMF menu and a desktop icon.



The most important features added in release 1.1.1 are the following.

Interface with XTomo-LM.  This interface makes feasible joint interpretation of a set of line seismograms with both application.  To get more details, read XMF documentation, section XTomo-LM and XMF of the first  chapter.

New in editing a modelIn version 1.0, model wireframe can be edited only on the same x-net it was first defined, irrespectively of the velocity grid current density. In other words, the accuracy of horizon approximation was fixed in the initial model forever. This drawback is eliminated in the new version: Wireframe Editor and Model Editor use grids with exactly the same set of vertical lines.

Optimal parallelization in Forward Problem Solver.  In version 1.0, ray tracing was executed concurrently for several sources by different logical processors (LP). That does not fit well for XMF, because the user works very often with small number of sources. On a computer with 8 LP (e.g. Intel Core i7), only 2 LP are engaged to trace rays from 2 sources and 8 waves, the rest 6 are idle.  In the new version, rays are traced concurrently for several source and waves. In our example, all 8 LP will be at work, the CPU being fully loaded by the task reducing still more computation time.

Creating project as copy.  In the new version, this operation allows creating a new project whose zero iteration contains a copy of a model from any iteration of the source project. Thus, a model of any iteration of a project can be turned into the initial model of another project.  This feature provides branching of interpretation process on both iteration and project level.
